About POGO ALARMS

POGO Alarms was developed as the first Power Off -- Game On security system to help combat the more than 27,000 boat thefts that occur each year. It is also the only security device developed for boaters, by boaters.

It all started when life-long boater Walter Dethier and his wife Joanne found themselves victims of boat theft three times in just two months. During the first two theft attempts, the Dethiers were aboard their 40-foot Magnum; the third time, thieves actually stole their boat without their knowledge until they got a call from the Coast Guard, who happened upon it by chance, heading south from Key Largo, Florida.  You can read of their harrowing experiences here. While researching security systems, they discovered that despite a variety of systems that would track a theft AFTER it occurred; there was no system that offered a deterrent BEFORE a boat could be stolen.

Dethier approached his long-time friend, Christopher Cestaro, owner of Ocean Performance, an established boat dealership in Old Saybrook, CT. Both Dethier and Cestaro are life-long boaters, and both have vast racing experience; the latter on boats, the former in cars. That “racer mentality” of identifying a problem and looking for a creative, easy, affordable solution helped in the creation of POGO Alarms.

Together, the pair conceptualized, designed and built a theft deterrent system that cannot be ignored. A boat on the water – or on a trailer – connected to shore power cannot be stolen without disconnecting the power cord. With POGO Alarms, when the power is pulled, a 109 decibel siren sounds alerting everyone on board or in the area,  thwarting the would-be thieves.

The POGO Alarms look like, and serve as a battery charger when properly installed providing a 5-amp trickle charge, making it a perfect security device for boats from PWCs to tenders to sports cruisers. In fact, POGO Alarms will work on any vehicle or vessel--RVs, ATVs, snowmobiles or motorcycles. In reality, anything that can be plugged into an AC power source can benefit from POGO Alarms.
